Critical Thinking about Critical Thinking
Reflecting on the current state of my critical
thinking competencies. Only 4 weeks into the course and I have learn so much. I
thought I knew what critical thinking meant, “fully thinking out a problem and
coming up with a solution”.
The
first thin I learned was the true definition of critical thinking. Critical
thinking is the intellectually
disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying,
analyzing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by,
observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to
belief and action.
Learning what SEE-I means and how
to use the concept has open up my thought process. Learning to (S) state, (E)
elaborate or explain, (E) exemplify, and (I) illustrate gives me a foundation
to build and clarify what I am truly trying to explore or learn. This is
(SEE-I) starting point of critical thinking.
The building blocks of critical
thinking are the elements of reasoning. The circle of elements simplifies this
concept. When ever we reason through anything the circle of elements (all
eight) present.
The latest thing I learn and
should be more conscience of is personal prejudices that can skew critical thinking
and its research. It is not ethical or true to the discipline of critical
thinking to fix or misrepresent research or collected data to appease your
hypothesis.
Yes, just 4 weeks into the course and
my thinking and outlook on what I thought critical thinking has changed.
