Explore the Hunt Library
When I think of the Hunt Library I think of it as any other
brink and mortar library. But, it means much more then that. As aviation
professional and student the Hunt Library offers an extensive array of indebted
information on many of the disciplines in the field of aviation.
I personally throughout my professional and academic careers
have used different search engines to do research or to simply look up
information, being formal or non-formal. I would like to blame my laziness on
the convenience of the Internet and the distance to the local library as to why
I used search engines such as Google and Bing.
Libraries like the Hunt library offer more scholarly
information then doing a common search on the Internet. Libraries offer more
scholarly information written by experts in a
particular field of study - generally for the purpose of sharing original
research or analyzing others' findings. Scholarly work will thoroughly cite all
source materials used and is usually subject to "peer review" prior
to publication. This means that independent experts in the field review, or
"referee" the publication to check the accuracy and validity of its
claims. The primary audience for this sort of work is fellow experts and
students studying the field. As a result the content is typically much more
sophisticated and advanced then that found doing a general search through a
search engine.
