Dynamics of Leadership
I think the changing
dynamics of leadership is a direct effect of the globalization of businesses. Globalization has been good for Multi-national
corporations and Wall Street. But globalization has not been good for working
people (blue or white collar) and has led to the continuing deindustrialization
of America. (Collins, 2015)
Globalization, I think has help
in the building companies so large that top executives and management to lose
touch with the lower working employees. Globalization I
suppose to be a process of interaction and integration among the people,
companies, and governments of different nations. But this interaction and
integration has cause a lack of confidence and support in leadership they are
sometimes spread then. Leaders are more stressed, challenged and confused today
than they have ever been before. (Obolensky, 2014)
Every leader has
a set of challenges and opportunities unique to the company’s history, market
segment, customer changes and technology. Every one of them is faced with the
challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid globalization of business.
The very concept of globalization is new. The first concept
that unfolded as companies began to grow outside of national boundaries was
that of the multi-national corporation. In some cases, companies were growing
so large that they began to lose a sense of national identity. But there was
still a sense of central command and control. Then companies began to
“internationalize.”
One of the most important things driving global
cooperation is the depth and quality of relationships that exist across a
multinational business. It is not uncommon for people from different cultural
backgrounds to get along well with each other on the surface; but they often
find it harder to establish a deeper emotional connection.
Despite recent increases in leadership development
investments, multinational corporations must move beyond the traditional
approach – a patchwork of locally deployed programs using generic lecture and
case study methods – to maximize impact. More and more leading organizations
are discovering the value of deploying consistent, high-impact leadership
development on a global basis. As the pace of globalization continues to
accelerate, the importance of global leadership development will become more
critical to an organization’s success than ever. (Ekelund & Adl, 2015)
